Pamphlet: Plurality 101

vagabondsun - 2019-12-12 19:44:23

This is a thread for one of our pamphlet projects: a 101 guide to plurality. We'll post updates and solicit feedback in here in smaller and more frequent chunks than we might on the blog. This specific project is being headed up by Rook.

The skeleton for the pamphlet is available to view here. Please let us know what you think!

Since I'm the one heading up the project, I suppose I'll elaborate on some thoughts for this pamphlet?

When you suggested the idea to me, I got the sense that it was gonna be used as a coming-out thing, and I think that might be a good scope to home in on if only because there are some plurality 101 type resources out there (like morethanone, which you mentioned in the draft), but not, as far as I'm aware, anything like this?

That said, I'm struggling to fine-tune an audience for this. I'm trying to keep it as general as possible, but I definitely have an idea of someone giving this to someone they're coming out as plural to, so I keep skewing in that direction especially with sections like "how can i support plurals." But I'm aware that this might just as well be given to someone who might be plural and not have the language to describe it yet, someone who might be questioning, so should there be a section for "I think I might be Plural?"

Yeah this sounds to muis like it might be better to make two different pamphlets for each of those sections? But like, making a mini pamphlet that's like, vocabulary and resources to learn more could be good.

My concern is that might be a little impractical? Like, if I'm using the material to come out to someone, or to introduce someone to the idea of plurality in general, then I'm not gonna want to hand someone a stack of pamphlets. Even two is a little overwhelming, I think. Folks won't really wanna read that much as a basic intro to something. :/

We wanna keep it easily digestible, so I think maybe having both "how can i support plurals" and "am i plural?" as like … mini sections in the regular 101 pamphlet, and then including links to further information and resources for people who wanna know more would be more practical.
